Abstract

The history of the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Siberian State Industrial University is presented. Information on academic staff and teaching support staff, scientific and education impact of the Institute is systematized. Chronological sequence describes the main milestones in the history of its establishment and development, achievements of the scientific schools, staff members and graduates, interaction with strategic partners.

Abstract

One of the reasons of technological equipment failure is fatigue failure of its elements. This is due to accumulation of internal damage in the materials. This process is controlled today by evaluation methods, based on the number of loading cycles of material and probabilistic assessment of the damage generation in material. In this paper, the probabilistic approach is preserved, but energy indicators are used as the basis for assessing durability of machine elements. It is proposed to evaluate the service life of machine elements that lose their performance due to the accumulation of fatigue damage through the flow of mechanical energy that passed through these elements. Basis of this approach is theory of performance in which energy transfer from an element to an element of the machine parts material along the kinematic chain of the machine is considered. As a result, interrelation of the intensity of damage accumulation in material of parts during transmission of mechanical energy through it is shown.

Abstract

The concept of simulation modeling is considered, including on the basis of “first principles” and the Monte Carlo method. The analysis of the development of thermodynamic theory and molecular kinetics is based on the works of L. Boltzmann, D. Maxwell, and J.W. Gibbs. A concise statement of the main ideas of Gibbs statistical mechanics and the derivation of the relations between energy, entropy and work based on statistical ensembles is presented. An analogy between these equations and the classical (macroscopic) equations of thermodynamics is shown. The basic principles of creating a simulation model of a gravity separator in a column jet-emulsion reactor are considered. An algorithm for implementing simulation tasks and a user-friendly graphical interface is presented. Examples of computer experiments on a simulation model, which is important for controlling the carbon content of a metal, are given.

Abstract

The main achievements of scientists of Siberian Metallurgical Institute during the Great Patriotic War to ensure defense capability of the country are shown. The decisive role of professor Yu.V. Grdina, associate professors I.S. Nazarov and E.Ya. Zarvin in development and application of armor metal smelting and rolling technology, associate professors E.Kh. Shamovsky, N.I. Kunitsyna in creating gas cutting installation for thick slabs of tank armor. Joint work was carried out with professors of the Moscow Institute of Steel evacuated to Novokuznetsk to solve complex scientific and technical problems. The great contribution of Professor Yu.V. Grdina in development of metallurgical fundamentals of heat treatment of rails is enlighted.
