COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE MICROSTRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF DIFFERENTIATED AND VOLUME-TERMALLY STRENGTHENED RAILS
Abstract
Research has shown that the microstructure of rail steel, which is formed during the heat treatment process, determines the level of mechanical properties and the performance of rails during operation. Therefore, identifying the changes in microstructure during changes in the heat treatment process is an important scientific and practical task in ensuring the quality of rails. In 2012 ‒ 2013, the EVRAZ United West Siberian Metallurgical Plant (ZSMK) carried out a radical reconstruction of the rail production, which includes a change in the heat treatment scheme with the abandonment of the technology of bulk quenching of rails in oil after furnace heating and the introduction of the technology of differentiated heat treatment with air using the heat of rolling heating. During the preparatory period, a large amount of experimental work was carried out on a pilot plant, which is described in detail in. These experiments are aimed at identifying the optimal chi
