FORMATION OF A HIGH-MARGIN COAL CHEMICAL AGENDA IN KUZBASS: CONDITIONS AND PROSPECTS

Abstract

The possibility of the transition of the Siberian coal industry, primarily Kuzbass, from the traditional fuel function to the formation of a new industrial direction focused on the production of carbon nanomaterials with high added value is considered. Such a shift in emphasis is seen as a response to global changes in the structure of demand, the growing importance of environmental standards and the rapid development of technologies for processing carbon-containing raw materials. Technological routes for the production of graphene, carbon nanotubes, fullerenes and promising sorbents from coal and anthracite are substantiated, with subsequent comparison of these solutions with global trends in sustainable development and decarbonization of industry. The increasing decline in export margins and the changing structure of external demand reinforce the importance of international scientific and technological cooperation, primarily with China, which remains the world leader in the field of carbon chemistry. The links established during the bilateral contacts with research centers and industrial enterprises in China demonstrate the practical applicability of advanced methods of processing carbon raw materials in Siberia and form the basis for joint engineering solutions. Mutual interest in deep processing technologies, as well as agreements on scientific cooperation, create prerequisites for accelerating the development of regional coal chemistry and reducing the dependence of the Kuzbass industry on the instability of commodity export markets. The results obtained confirm the possibility of creating pilot production facilities on the basis of existing enterprises in Kuzbass, subject to the active participation of research and development organizations. It is noted that the integration of such technologies into the regional industrial infrastructure can ensure the formation of a new market segment and increase the sustainability of the industry in the context of the global energy transition. The "coal as a carbon raw material" model has significant potential for economic diversification, expanding the product portfolio and reducing the carbon intensity of industrial production, which makes it a promising direction for long-term development.
