Abstract
The results of an experimental study of the effect of the granulometric composition and humidity of electric steelmaking dust on the efficiency of the magnetic separation process are presented. The study used methods of granulometric, X-ray phase and chemical analysis, as well as experimental tests on an ERG magnetic separator BSM-SMVI/T4028, aimed at determining the optimal characteristics of electric steelmaking dust to improve the quality of concentrate and weakly magnetic tailings. A series of experiments have been conducted to study the effect of the fractional composition and moisture content of the material on the enrichment parameters. When using dust with a fraction of less than 0.25 mm, maximum separation efficiency is achieved. It was found that at minimum humidity, the iron content in the concentrate increases by 15 %, and at high humidity, the mass yield decreases. The use of magnetic separation of electric steelmaking dust with a fraction of less than 0.25 mm and a humidity of less than 2 % makes it possible to obtain a concentrate with a high iron content and a low zinc content, as well as to obtain weakly magnetic tailings with a maximum zinc content. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of applying the results obtained to improve technologies for processing metallurgical waste. Studies have shown that under optimal conditions, the proportion of zinc in the tailings increases to 60 %, which makes them suitable for the subsequent extraction of valuable components. This makes it possible to develop a closed waste recycling cycle by integrating magnetic separation into a comprehensive resource-saving technology. Thus, the optimal humidity and dust dispersion parameters of the electric steelmaking plant established during experimental magnetic separations provide specific engineering solutions for setting up separation equipment and open up the prospect for creating low-waste production schemes in metallurgy
