VOLCANOUS FORMATIONS IN THE TUEKTIN FORMATION (MIDDLE DEVON) OF THE CENTRAL PART OF THE MOUNTAINAL ALTAI

Abstract

The Tuekta Formation was identified during geological surveys in the early 1960s. It dates to the upper Givetian stage of the Middle Devonian and contains corals and brachiopods, including Euryspirifer cheehiel (Kon.), Spinocyrtia martianovi (Stuck.), and others. The formation's deposits are primarily dark gray and black siltstones and mudstones with occasional layers of sandstone and organogenic limestone. In these characteristics, it is similar to the Tashanta Formation of the Yustyd Trough. However, within the formation, felsic volcanic rocks (rhyolites) are widespread. In fact, their appearance here served as the basis for the identification of a stratigraphic unit.
