TO THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF EVGENY VALENTINOVICH PROTOPOPOV

November 10, 2017 marks the 60th birthday of the rector of the Siberian State Industrial University (SibGIU), honored worker of higher education of the Russian Federation, honorary metallurgist, honorary worker of higher professional education of the Russian Federation, doctor of technical sciences, professor Evgeny Valentinovich Protopopov. In 1980, Evgeny Valentinovich Protopopov graduated from the Siberian Metallurgical Institute with a degree in ferrous metallurgy and began his career at the Department of Steel Metallurgy. After completing his postgraduate studies in 1987, he defended his dissertation for the degree of candidate of technical sciences. In 1988, he was awarded the academic title of associate professor. In 1991, Evgeny Valentinovich headed the work of the Department of Steel Metallurgy, and in 1995 he was elected to the position of Dean of the Metallurgical Faculty of the Siberian State Industrial University. In 1998, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Development of the theory and complex technology of converter smelting with changing parameters of metal charging", and in 2000 he was awarded the academic title of professor. In 2010, Evgeny Valentinovich headed the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, and in 2013, he was elected rector of SibGIU by the university staff. During his work as rector, Evgeny Valentinovich made a great contribution to the development of the university: the introduction of innovative educational technologies, increasing the effectiveness of applied and fundamental scientific research, strengthening the material and technical base, and activating various forms of extracurricular activities for students. On his initiative, a number of advanced infrastructure changes have been implemented, ensuring the growth of efficiency in various areas of the university's activities. Protopopov E.V. successfully combines social, scientific and pedagogical activities. He is the head of the scientific school "Development of the theory and development of resource- and energy-saving technologies for the production of ferrous metals using man-made waste", one of the recognized leaders in the scientific community in matters of theory and practice of resource- and energy-saving technologies for steel production, technological modes of converter steel smelting, optimization of the design of blast devices and increasing the durability of the lining of metallurgical units. He made a significant contribution to solving the urgent problem of rational use of natural raw materials at various enterprises of the metallurgical industry due to the processing of man-made waste in converter-type units.

Evgeny Valentinovich Protopopov is a co-author of a scientific discovery registered by the International Academy of Authors of Inventions and Discoveries and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Evgeny Valentinovich is the author of more than 550 scientific publications, including 38 author's certificates and patents for inventions, most of which have been implemented in production, and is the author of 14 monographs and textbooks with the stamp of the Educational and Methodological Association (UMA) in the field of "Metallurgy". Under his supervision, 10 candidate and 1 doctoral dissertations were defended. Evgeny Valentinovich is the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal "Izvestiya Vuzov. Ferrous Metallurgy", and the editor-in-chief of the collection of scientific papers "Bulletin of the Mining and Metallurgical Section of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Department of Metallurgy", Chairman of the Dissertation Council D212.252.01 at the Siberian State Industrial University, Chairman of the Presidium of the West Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
Evgeny Valentinovich Protopopov is a full member (academician) of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Russian Ecological Academy. His achievements have been recognized with many industry awards and awards from the Kemerovo Region Administration.
Evgeny Valentinovich celebrates his anniversary in the prime of his creative powers. His active life position, many years of creative work and close partnerships with scientists and specialists from different parts of our country have allowed him to raise a galaxy of talented students who are increasing the achievements of metallurgical science and the development of the industry.
